Behind thecamera.

I am Jyri Salminen, founder of Satama Films, and a writer, director, cinematographer and editor.

What interests me most in video production are people, personalities and stories — and how to convey them honestly through the camera. My passion for filming began in childhood, when I got hold of my father's video camera and started making my own moped and comedy videos.

I have filmed and edited more than 70 videos for YouTube, including vlogs, competitions, interviews, short films, sketches, music videos and reality series.

How I think about video

Authenticity and storymake it compelling

The best and most genuine moments often happen when the people on camera forget that the camera is there. In fictional content, engagement comes from a strong idea, memorable characters and a well-told story.

I want to create engaging stories, capture distinctive moments and leave viewers wanting to know what happens next.

I use versatile, lightweight production equipment that lets me adapt quickly to different situations. Alongside the cameras, I have a flexible lighting and audio setup, including wireless microphones for recording up to eight people at once.

A compact action camera for fast-moving situations and angles where a conventional camera would be difficult to place.

A camera drone for striking aerial footage and establishing the environment.
